How To Live A Life Filled With Purpose (Even If You’ve Forgotten Yours)

Let’s talk about purpose.

Not the kind we force because we feel we should be doing something meaningful.
Not the kind that looks good on paper or earns applause.

I’m talking about the deep, soul level kind. The kind that makes your chest rise with clarity. The kind that feels like coming home to yourself.

What is purpose, really?

In psychological terms, purpose is more than just a goal. It’s a stable and far reaching intention to achieve something that is both personally meaningful and makes a positive impact beyond yourself. In short, it’s the bridge between what lights you up and what serves others.

When we live in alignment with our purpose, we feel energised, focused and fulfilled. Time expands. Challenges feel worthwhile. Even mundane tasks start to make sense in the bigger picture.

And when we’re not in alignment?

We often feel disconnected, restless or like something is missing, even if from the outside everything looks “fine.”

I knew mine as a child

As a little girl, I didn’t know to call it “purpose.” But I felt it.

It was there in the spotlight when I sang. In the stories I wrote. In the way I longed to uplift, to create, to lead.

But life has a funny way of layering over our clarity, doesn’t it?

The conditioning. The roles. The responsibilities. The noise.
Over time, my purpose was still whispering to me, but I couldn’t hear it over the hum of “shoulds.” I got good at pushing, performing, building. I even found success.

But somewhere deep down, I knew I’d strayed.

Eventually, I couldn’t ignore the whispers anymore. And through deep subconscious work, including hypnotherapy, I rediscovered what had been there all along. I didn’t have to find it. I had to remember.

And when I did? Everything clicked back into place.

already inside of you, waiting patiently to be felt, heard and followed.

In fact, positive psychology research tells us that purpose can be cultivated, even if it doesn’t feel clear right now. It’s not some mystical lightning bolt. It’s a process of self awareness, curiosity and courage.

Try these science backed strategies to reconnect with your purpose:

1. Clarify your core values
What really matters to you? Not what you’ve been told should matter, but what truly makes you feel like yourself. Use journaling prompts or value sort cards to uncover what lights your inner compass.

2. Notice your strengths
We all have a unique configuration of strengths. Are you a natural problem solver? A deep listener? A creative thinker? Positive psychology shows that when we use our top strengths daily, we’re far more likely to feel purposeful.

3. Follow the joy
This might sound simple, but it’s profound. What brings you alive? Joy is one of the most reliable clues to purpose. If it lights you up, it’s probably lighting the path forward too.

4. Listen to your subconscious
Sometimes, our conscious mind has no idea, but our subconscious does. That’s where modalities like hypnotherapy can be powerful. They bypass the mental chatter and help you access what you already know, deep down.

5. Don’t try to figure it out alone
