Redefining Success Through the Seasons of Life

September 05, 20252 min read

What is success anyway? We hear the word thrown around constantly, usually attached to money, status, or the size of someone’s business. We see entrepreneurs like Richard Branson or Steven Bartlett and think, “They must be successful.” But if we pause and look deeper, we start to realise that success is far more personal, and far more holistic, than society’s narrow definitions.

Success is not only about what you earn or own. True success is when your health is strong, your relationships are nourishing, your mind is clear, your body feels energised, and yes, your finances are thriving too. Money is not the enemy. It is a powerful lever that allows you to create a bigger impact, access the best support, and expand your vision. But money is not the whole picture. It is simply part of the puzzle.

The truth is, success shifts as we move through the seasons of life. When you are starting out, success might look like making ends meet. When you begin raising a family, success may be measured in quality time with your children while still being able to earn a living. Later, success might become about building sustainable revenue so you can invest in the support, systems, and freedom you need.

Our definition of success changes as we change. Sometimes that means reinventing a business entirely. Sometimes it simply means adjusting the way we work, so it supports the life we want now, not the life we wanted years ago. Too often entrepreneurs feel they have to burn everything down when it no longer feels aligned. But more often, success is about reimagining, pivoting, and creating space for your business to evolve alongside you.

This is where vision becomes vital. If your business supports the vision you hold for your life, you will feel aligned and energised. If it does not, you will feel off track. You will know it because the joy fades, and fulfilment feels further away. When that happens, it is a call to pause, breathe, and listen inward. Success is not something you can think your way into. It comes from quiet space, from long walks, weekends away, moments of stillness where the answers can rise from within you.

Sometimes stepping into a new season of success requires new tools, new people, or new practices. Sometimes it is as simple as shedding old habits, environments, or identities that no longer serve who you are becoming. Identity evolves, and with it, our definition of success evolves too.

Whether you are building a business that fuels your lifestyle, or you are stepping fully into your purpose-driven calling, know this: success is not fixed. It is fluid, seasonal, and deeply personal. What matters is that you honour where you are, stay open to where you are going, and allow yourself to redefine success as you grow.
